BKC Biryani Kebab Chai London, review

BKC, Biryani Kebab Chai, is an intimate, vibrant yet modern restaurant, located on Moor Street in London’s energetic Soho. It’s unassuming appearance and relaxed vibe, married up with its authentic North Indian Awadhi cuisine and menu will blow your mind and taste buds, we guarantee.

Since opening last summer, this restaurant has retained the spirited culinary excellence that BKC is known for, led by Executive Chef Arsh Thakur, poised with an edgier ambiance, more modern evolution of the restaurant to fit in seamlessly in its Soho location.

The menu features Awadhi cuisine, originating from Awadh (modern-day Lucknow) in Northern India and is wholly defined by its aromatics, distinct flavours, and unique textures.

The bawarchis (chefs) and rakabdars (gourmet cooks) of Awadh invented the Dum style of cooking or the art of cooking over a slow fire, which has become synonymous with Lucknow today, known as Awadh of India.

Sourcing the finest chefs, flavours, and dishes, you will be in for an authentic tapas-style tasting experience perfect for enjoying with friends who love to socialise, share, and savour, making long lasting gastronomic memories.

The menu features biryani, kebabs, curries, kathi rolls, breads, small plates, sides and desserts and it’s recommended to choose a selection to truly enjoy what BKC has to offer. Think Indian tapas packed with full flavours that is cooked to perfection – there is so much joy to be found in each dish and we can still taste the wonderful freshness and spices.

We opted for the Lakhnawi Lamb Biryani. The lamb was cooked with saffron, rose water and fragrant rice. The lamb was succulent, and it was one of simpler dishes which complemented some of the deeper and vibrant flavours of some of the other dishes we chose.

One of our favourites, was the Sirloin Steak Kebab. You could taste the spiced rubbed beef sirloin steak, which had a hand-crushed chilli and coriander topping. It was a small dish, yet it was packed with the freshest flavours and delicious for those who love a bit of heat.

Another favourite was the Fish Tikka Masala, which incorporated tandoor monkfish, simmered in onion and tomato gravy. The fish fell apart upon serving and it was one of the nicest curries I have ever tasted. It was flawless in every way.

The Malai Broccoli was surprisingly charming, again, with a full yet delicate flavour and we loved it. Expect lightly spiced broccoli marinated with cream and peppercorn, it also had a smoked taste, which complemented this nutritious vegetable.

We would also highly recommend a side of popadoms and roti breads with the coriander and mint chutney to complete our tasting experience.

Whilst BKC provides an acclaimed dining experience, which we would endorse greatly, why not indulge in this beautiful cuisine in the comfort of your own home for yourself and friends to enjoy an authentic Indian takeaway for a dinner party at home.

We will treasure our authentic North Indian tasting experience, and I can assure you we will be back to enjoy more dishes from this humble yet delectable menu!
