A Luxury Watch Built for the McLaren W1

Inspired by McLaren’s new W1 supercar, Swiss watchmaker Richard Mille has unveiled its latest creation: the RM 65-01 McLaren Automatic Split-Seconds Chronograph W1, marking their fourth collaboration with McLaren and celebrating nine years of partnership.

The carbon TPT case of the watch is inspired by the W1’s bodywork line and is designed to replicate the car’s posture. The watch’s intricate bezel, crafted from Carbon TPT and titanium, draws inspiration from the muscular shape of the W1, with the pushers and crown echoing the car’s design elements. Every aspect of the watch, from its shape to its materials, reflects McLaren’s attention to detail, making it a true “racing machine for the wrist.”

The RMAC4 movement from the original RM 65-01 was ideally suited for this purpose. Richard Mille’s most advanced automatic chronograph, featuring a split-seconds function, operates at a rapid frequency of 5Hz, or 36,000 vibrations per hour. This high oscillation rate allows the RMAC4 chronograph to measure elapsed times with precision down to one-tenth of a second, while its vertical clutch and dual six-column wheels ensure exceptionally smooth and accurate chronograph function activation.

The RM 65-01 W1 features a sophisticated gearbox design. To switch between Winding, Date, and Hand Setting functions, simply press the pusher located in the center of the crown until the desired mode is reached. The indicator at the 4 o’clock position will display W, D, or H, corresponding to the selected function.

Similar to the McLaren W1 car, the RM 65-01 McLaren W1 is incredibly exclusive, with only 500 pieces produced. Although the official price has yet to be revealed, industry insiders estimate it will be around 320,000 Swiss Francs. Secured your spot for McLaren’s latest hypercar?
