The most desirable 50-year-old has turned out to be The in Lalique Six Pillars Collection, with a bespoke display platform and an exclusive experience offered directly from Lalique. offered a set of limited-edition bottles from the Speyside distillery. The winner took home the Six Pillars Collection, made up of six fabulous Crystal decanters containing whiskies from 50 to 65 years old, for $600,000. Sotheby’s roped in consultant Mark Littler to bring these whiskies to the auction.
The collector, an avid enthusiast, shared, “Whisky has been a passion of mine for many years. While I collect many things, cars, watches and art included, whisky has always been something that has held my attention. I will be sad to part with this collection, but it felt like the time was right for it to find a new home. I have still held back some of my favorite bottles to enjoy over the next few years.”
The half-a-century-old bottles mark a decade of collaboration between the distillery and the French crystal maker, making it an excellent memento of an exemplary partnership between stalwarts. Part of the set was The 50-Year-Old, released in 2005. Another 55-year-old Macallan was released in 2007, along with The 57-Year-Old, released in 2009. The rest were more than 60 years old, released in 2011, a Macallan 62 Year Old celebrating the Easter Elchies House, and the Macallan 65 Year Old released in 2016.
