April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

We would like to take a moment to break away from cars and self-promotion and talk about something entirely different and unrelated to car sales and service and talk about something vastly more important than almost any other issue on the planet. April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month, and Luxury Auto Works is dedicated to protecting children in every way.

Earlier this month, we made a donation to the Center for Child Protection in Austin because if there is one issue that transcends politics, income or any other divisive issue, that is one of child protection.

The Center for Child Protection is a large children’s advocacy center that is nationally accredited for quality and safety. This center has been the main and often only advocate for crimes against children for almost three decades protecting children suspected to be victims of sexual, violent or other crimes.

Anyone who watches cop shows like CSI: SVU can appreciate the delicate nature of dealing with crimes against children. The Center for Child Protection has specialists in a child-friendly environment trained to interview children and process medical testing.

Additionally, the center operates entirely free of charge to the community, this is why we encourage the community as a whole to support them.

One in ten

That is the chance a child will be sexually abused by their 18th birthday by an adult. In addition to the incredible advocacy and medical services the center offers, you can contact them for free training in what to look for in abuse, provide options for reporting and protections for those who keep our children safe. If you would like more information on these free community training, feel free to schedule training now.

What you can do to help

We understand many people are not in a position to make a financial contribution when you want to help, but want to do something. You can volunteer to help the center. Direct involvement with the children is very helpful. No direct involvement for those who would instead not become personally involved in what can be very traumatic. Feel free to fill out a volunteer application to find out what you can do. Also, to brighten a child’s moment, they have the Kids Closet to donate toys, blankets or stuffed animals. This helps them have something of their own to keep. Many children have to be immediately removed from a home and have nothing of comfort.

If you are in immediate need of child protection, please call the police now. Do not wait until next time or any other excuse. The Austin Police Department investigates criminal cases of sexual abuse of children 17 and under. Report child abuse and neglect cases to the Texas Abuse Hotline at 1-800-252-5400 or by calling 911.

“Disclosure without therapy is the second rape of the child.”
