If It’s Hip It’s Here

You might have seen what look like fun, furry replica artworks of da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, van Gogh‘s Starry Night and other masterworks advertised as wall art on certain social media platforms and sites. These invitingly tactile versions of classic art are being sold currently as “Fluffy Wall Art” by UK company Kahove, who describe their design directive as “recreating historical masterpieces in creative and extraordinary forms.” I like them and I have since I first saw them as an original series of 6 digital artworks by artist Murat Yildririm on Behance in 2020

Yildririm’s fun furry replica artworks comprises six digital pieces inspired by recognizable classics; the Mona Lisa, Starry Night, The Girl With A Pearl Earring, Persistence of Memory, The Scream and Impression, Sunrise. Each execution, with exception of the Mona Lisa, incorporated a found object, and was created with Adobe Photoshop and Cinema Maxon 4D. The series received lots of accolades among the digital art community and are now sold as NFTs

The Istanbul artist, aka @Muartive, says of the series “It has long been common to reproduce the world’s most famous paintings by imitation. In this abstract idea, I used furs as a creative tool to move world-famous paintings forward. With this effect, I combined the colors of all pictures in an innovative and vibrant way. I have been impressed by classical paintings since my childhood. However, since modern art has become digital, I have turned all this into my favorite 3D artwork.”
