Be it Cristiano Ronaldo or Neymar or recently-retired Zlatan Ibrahimovic, soccer superstars are known for spending millions of dollars on buying themselves the shiniest and the most exclusive automotive creations. However, if several recent media reports are to be believed, Galatasaray striker Mauro Icardi has become the owner of one of the most expensive cars ever made – one of the three Rolls-Royce Boat Tails. According to Autoevolution, the Argentinian soccer star splurged around $25 million to buy a Rolls-Royce Boat Tail, following the completion of his transfer to Turkish football club Galatasaray after spending last season on loan from PSG.


The first of the three examples of the Boat Tail was revealed by Rolls-Royce in 2021 as its first coachbuilding project in the modern era. With a price tag of almost $29 million, it had become the most expensive new car in the world, snatching the title from the $17 million Bugatti La Voiture Noire. Incidentally, the one-off Bugatti was originally believed to be commissioned by Cristiano Ronaldo, but it turned out to be just a rumor.

The first example of the Boat Tail was reportedly purchased by billionaire rapper Jay-Z and his pop star wife Beyoncé, which has never been officially confirmed by the British luxury automaker. The second example was sold to an unnamed industrialist who earned his money in the pearl industry.

With an annual salary of $6.6 million at Galatasaray and an estimated net worth of around $100 million, Icardi can definitely afford to add a Boat Tail to his personal garage. However, the coach-built Rolls-Royce alone will be half the worth of his total wealth, which is quite interesting. Furthermore, it comes with special features that cannot be found on the automaker’s standard models. The four-seater convertible comes equipped with a parasol and a telescopic table that automatically extends, ideal for a beautiful picnic for two. It hides inside silvery cutlery and porcelain plates from Christofle, along with two refrigerators for champagne bottles. The Boat Tail is powered by a 6.75-liter twin-turbo V12 engine that produces nearly 600 horsepower.
